Planning an Epic Ski Wedding in the French Alps: Here’s How
A wedding at altitude. Snow beneath your boots. Vows above the clouds.
If you're dreaming of something a little different — something bold, intimate, and breathtaking — a ski wedding in the French Alps might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Imagine stepping off a ski lift, taking in a panoramic view of snow-covered peaks, and walking through fresh powder to the spot where you’ll say “I do.” No pressure. No crowds. Just the two of you, surrounded by the mountains.
At The Elopement Company, we specialise in planning unforgettable alpine weddings — and ski elopements are one of the most exciting ways to celebrate your love. From finding the perfect ski-accessible ceremony location to handling every last logistical detail, we make it simple for you to have a once-in-a-lifetime wedding, without the stress.
Why get married on skis?
A ski wedding isn’t just a ceremony — it’s an experience.
You get the thrill of the mountains, the intimacy of an elopement, and a setting that looks like something straight out of a snow globe. It’s perfect for couples who love adventure and want a wedding that feels true to who they are — relaxed, romantic, and a little bit wild.
Whether it’s just the two of you or you’re bringing a handful of guests along for the ride, a ski elopement offers:
An unforgettable setting – Snow-covered peaks, endless alpine views, and golden light.
A slower, more meaningful pace – No distractions, no strict timeline, just time to soak it all in.
Incredible photos – The kind of wedding album that doesn’t need filters.
Is a ski wedding really possible?
Yes — and we make it easy.
Couples often start with a big question: How does this actually work?
That’s where we come in. We take care of everything behind the scenes so you can focus on the magic of the day. Most couples choose to do the legal paperwork at home, then have their symbolic ceremony in the Alps — the moment that really matters. And whether you’re experienced skiers or just confident on your feet, we’ll help you choose a location that suits your comfort level and sense of adventure.

How to plan a ski wedding: 5 things you really need to know
Planning a wedding on skis sounds exciting — and it is — but there are a few key things to think through to make it a success. Here are the essentials we guide our couples through:
1. Choose the right location
Not all ski resorts are created equal when it comes to weddings. You need access to quiet ceremony spots that are ski-friendly, not just scenic.
Some of our favourite destinations for ski weddings include:
Chamonix – Ideal for wild, high-altitude elopements.
Morzine – Romantic and scenic, with great access to peaceful snow-covered trails.
Avoriaz – Car-free and full of charm, with incredible high-mountain views.
2. Think about who’s coming
Are you planning to elope just the two of you, or bringing a few guests? Not everyone may want (or be able) to ski, so you’ll need to choose a location that works for everyone — or have alternative ways for guests to reach the site (snowshoes, snowmobiles, or lift access).
We’ll help you make sure the logistics fit your guest list.
3. Dress for the weather
Yes, you can absolutely wear a wedding dress or suit — but layering is everything. We always recommend:
Thermal leggings under dresses
Waterproof boots or stylish snow boots
Gloves, shawls, or faux-fur wraps for warmth
A backup coat that looks good in photos
And yes, you can ski in a wedding dress if it’s the right style — we’ve seen it done, and it looks amazing.
4. Time it right
The best light for mountain weddings? Early mornings or golden hour. We help you time your ceremony to get the most flattering light (and avoid the midday ski crowds). We also keep an eye on snow reports, wind, and visibility, so your day runs smoothly.
5. Have a weather backup
The Alps are spectacular — and occasionally unpredictable. That’s why we always have a weather backup plan. If snowstorms roll in or visibility drops, we’ll guide you to an alternative spot that’s just as beautiful and more sheltered.
What does the day actually feel like?
Here’s what a ski wedding with us often looks like:
You wake up in a cosy chalet, sip coffee while snow falls outside, and get ready without a to-do list in sight. Everything has been taken care of. You take a lift or snowcat up the mountain to your ceremony location, where a simple, beautiful setup is waiting. You say your vows with snow crunching beneath your boots and mountains stretching in every direction.
Then you ski down together — married, joyful, and completely in the moment.
That’s the kind of wedding we help you create.
You enjoy the moment. We’ll handle everything else.
At The Elopement Company, we’re not just planners — we’re alpine specialists. We know these mountains inside and out, and we know exactly how to create a ski wedding that’s just as seamless as it is spectacular.
From your first email to your final run down the mountain, you’ll be in experienced hands.
